Additional Positions

Meet Dr. Jamie Sidani

As a certified health education specialist (CHES), my goal is to help individuals critically analyze and understand the information with which they come into contact so that they can make informed health decisions. Before embarking on my research career, I was a Health Educator at the University of Pittsburgh Student Health Service. During this time, I started a rapid HIV testing program, a contraceptive counseling program, and the PantherWELL Peer Health Education program.

Currently, my research focuses broadly on the intersection between media and health, with particular interest in investigating how we can use media and technology in ways that promote health. Currently, I am investigating how exposure to misinformation and misleading content about nicotine and tobacco is associated with tobacco use among youth. I am also interested in ways we can build trust between researchers and the communities we serve. As part of this, I utilize community-based participatory methods, especially when working with adolescents, youth, and underserved groups.
